PROFILE:

Department of Mathematics has its origin in 1938 when the college was affiliated to the Andhra University under private management.

B.Sc degree course with Mathematics, Physics & Chemistry as combinations was started in 1938.At present the college is running with 5 Groups having Mathematics combinations which are M.P.C (E.M&T.M), M.P.Cs, M.S.Cs & M.E.Cs.

From 2014-15 academic year M.Sc Mathematics Course was started.

Eminent principals & lecturers like Sri N.Vijaya Prasad garu, Retd.Principal, Govt.Degree College, were the alumni of this department during the period 1959-62.

Other famous alumni’s were

  • GHATTI SIVA RAMA KRISHNA, student during the period 1979-84.He did M S  Computers at University of Massachusetts, Lowell, U.S.A .He worked as teaching faculty at U MASS 1999-2004.His present position is DIRECTOR, IT DEPT., THE WASHINGTON POST, U.S.A. email:dkotturi@gmail.com. He donated funds for SRR & CVR GOVT. COLLEGE garden renovation in 2001.
  • Dr.G.V.N. KAMESWARA RAO, student during the period 1958-1962. He did Ph.D at University of Maryland, U.S.A.
  • One – third of the present faculties CH.Jagadish & K.V. Rama Rao were the alumni of this department.

Extension Services:

Department of Mathematics in tune with the college extended its academic services to the student community through –

 

  1. D.R.C (District Resource Centre) to the Govt. Degree Colleges in the Krishna District.

2.   J.K.C (Jawahar Knowledge Centre) to develop Arithmetic & Numerical Ability    

      required for competitive exams

3. Remedial coaching for slow learners.

4. Offering Career guidance to students who approach to the department and   

     guides them according to their aptitude and maintain a relationship even   

     after relieving the college.

Events / Activities conducted by the Department of Mathematics:

Every year we celebrate the following.

(a)  5th August is celebrated as National Mathematics Day on the occasion of Birthday of Neil’s Henrik Abel, a Norwegian Mathematician who proved the impossibility of solving the Quintic Equation by radicals.

(b) 22nd December is celebrated as Ramanujan’s Birthday

     On the occasion of these days Mathematics Quiz Competition, Elocution, Guest    

      Lectures, Group Discussions are conducted.

     Prizes are given to the students with the financial support given by the

      members of the department only.

Social Initiative Activities:

 

The Department motivated and inspired the students to approach the public and donors in support of the HUD-HUD cyclone relief fund. Further the department also participated Swatcha Bharath Programme along with other Depts.

 

Student Achievements during 2013-2014:

 

* K.Divya, 1st B.Sc Mathematics Student got 100% in Paper-I.

* N.Rajasri, 2nd B.Sc Mathematics Student got 99% in Paper-II.

 

Student Achievements during 2014-2015:

 

  • Katakam Divya II B.Sc (Maths,Statistics,Computer Science) is selected 23rd  Mathematics Training and Talent Search(MTTS) O level Program funded by National Board for Higher Mathematics Govt. of India which will be commenced at Dept. of Mathematics, Goa University, GOA from May 11,2015.

 

Best Practices:

 Mathematics Club which was very  recently opened to create interest in Mathematics among the students and for the purpose of providing enrichment & challenges for students who have a strong interest & ability in Mathematics .Every one interested in Mathematics invited to join MATH CLUB -  a forum for experiencing the beauty of Mathematical ideas in whatever form they arise .It was founded to encourage the students to get acquainted with the various branches of Mathematics like Abstract Algebra, Analysis etc., It aims to be a platform for people  to communicate their Mathematical Interest so that others, too, might share their excitement .

 

Future Plans: Certificate Courses to be introduced from the next Academic Year.
